I’ve shared my Reiki attunement experiencу in this post. And today, I’d like to share some useful tips on how to prepare for Reiki attunement to get the most out of this wonderful experience.

Scheduling your attunement
I recommend you schedule your session at least one week in advance, to begin preparations 7 days prior to your Reiki attunement. And this is exactly what I did before my attunement. Yet some people prefer to start their preparations 3 days prior to the attunement date, which is also fine. There are no strict rules. Just listen to your intuition.
Now that you chose your preparation duration, let’s talk about DO’s and DON’Ts during these days.
How to prepare for Reiki attunement: do's & don't
DON’Ts
- Try to give up red meat and dairy. Both meat and dairy take more energy for our bodies to digest and when practicing healing we want our body’s energy to be fully available for channeling.
- Consume no alcohol as well as coffee. These drinks affect the nervous system and can make you feel more anxious. This is also true for energetic drinks of any kind and white sugar.
- Avoid stressful situations. I know it’s easier said than done. Yet at least you may try. Sticking to Reiki principles helps here a lot.
- Avoid excessive stimulation. Try to get some rest from the TV, Internet and smartphones. At least before going to bed.
DO’S
- Stick to a healthy diet. Drink more water and natural juice. Consume food that is fulfilling and is full of vitamins and minerals.
- Release negative emotions. Again, it’s easier said than done. So, you might want to make a conscious effort to release negative emotions, such as anger or jealousy.
- Get back to nature. You will not only need physical strength but emotional strength as well before going into a Reiki session. The best way for keeping up good emotional health is to feel the nature around you. Go to a park or to the countryside. Walk around, breathe slowly and relax.
- Practice Reiki before going to bed. It will help you to reduce stress and heighten the overall effects of the upcoming attunement.
- Get restful sleep. Sleeping well will help reduce fatigue and tiredness allowing you to have energy and be fully present for your attunement.
In-person Reiki Attunement Tips
If your attunement is in person, give yourself enough time to travel so you do not become stressed and anxious on the way and try to arrive a little early so you have time to adjust and have a rest from your journey. If you are traveling to a distant town for your attunement, be aware that you may not feel like driving home the same day. So, consider having an alternate plan to stay overnight at a hotel.
Distant Reiki Attunement Tips
If you are receiving a distance attunement, make sure you are staying in the comfort of your own home. Make sure you won’t be disturbed, so turn the phone off. Put on some relaxing music or burn some incense or light candles if you wish. Sit down or lay down about 10 minutes before the scheduled time and let yourself completely relax and calm your mind. When it’s time for an attunement, simply relax for about 30 minutes. You will intuitively feel when the attunement is over. It’s a good thing to practice Reiki the same day on yourself or someone you know to start the flow of energy (this will be part of your attunement ceremony if you are being attuned in-person).
