Distant Reiki healing is a great way of receiving healing without physical touch or even presence of a practitioner and a recipient in one and the same location. It has the same effects as in-person healing, yet may be more appropriate in certain conditions.
Today, I will answer the most frequent questions I receive about distant Reiki, these are: what is distant Reiki, how it works and how one can prepare for a distant session.

What is distant Reiki
In general, distant healing (DH) techniques are defined as acts of conscious intent, wish, or focus, dedicated to improving the health or well-being of another person who is far away. When it comes to Reiki, the healing session is most often performed in-person. Reiki is typically offered through light touch on a fully clothed recipient who is seated in a chair or lying down on a treatment table.
As opposed to in-person Reiki, long-distance Reiki (also known as distant Reiki healing or remote Reiki) does not require recipients to be in the same location. Yet it can be used during in-person sessions for clients who are not comfortable with being touched or who are unable to visit a practitioner in person for this or that reason.
How distant Reiki healing works
Some people attribute Distance Reiki to an ancient principle called the Hermetic Law of Similarity, which states that we are all connected since each of us is made of energy and is a part of a larger whole.I cannot agree more, since the whole Reiki concept is based on the use of the life force energy, that is the energy of the Universe.
Based on this concept, distant Reiki allows a practitioner to transfer energy to a recipient no matter where his or her location is. To do that, practitioners use their thoughts and intentions to move energy into a recipient’s spiritual, emotional, mental, or physical being. Also, Reiki symbols can be used to amplify the effect.
As I’ve mentioned earlier, distant Reiki practice can also be used during in-person sessions for clients who are not comfortable with being touched.
Now, let me answer the final question I get asked a lot, that is: how one can prepare for a distant Reiki session.
Preparing for a distant Reiki healing session
First, you’ll have a brief online meeting or call with your practitioner. It will consist of a brief introduction and discussion about your expectations, intentions and process. As for the intentions, I suggest you think them over in advance. They may include increased clarity, focus and confidence, energy cleansing, grounding and feeling of belonging.
As for the healing session itself, it won’t require you to do anything special, but laying down and being still. But some preparation is required though.
On the day of your session, drink more water and natural juice. Consume food that is fulfilling and is full of vitamins and minerals.
Next, make sure you are staying in the comfort of your own home and won’t be disturbed, so turn the phone off. Make sure your clothing is loose-fitting and comfortable. Cotton, linen and other natural fabrics are ideal choices. Remove your shoes, jewelry, and glasses before your session. Though you may wear crystal jewelry or have crystals near you to amplify the healing effect.
Put on some relaxing music or burn some incense or light candles if you wish.
Sit down or lay down about 10 minutes before the scheduled time and let yourself completely relax and calm your mind. Hold a positive expectation that your body and mind have the wisdom and ability to heal. Keep this expectation throughout the whole session.
When it’s time for a session, simply relax for about 30 minutes.

All of these preparations will help you be more ready to accept Reiki energy. You will intuitively feel when the session is over. Don’t rush afterwards, take your time. Leverage your post-Reiki session time for inward reflection and nurturing for yourself.
